Appearance

Almost everything about how Keyguard looks lives in one place: Settings → Appearance.

Theme & color

  • Theme — Follow system settings, Light, or Dark. Following the system flips with your OS day/night setting.
  • Use contrast black theme — an AMOLED-friendly variant that paints dark backgrounds pure black, saving power on OLED screens. Only matters while a dark theme is active.
  • Use expressive theme — opts into the more playful Material 3 expressive styling.
  • Tint color — the accent applied across the app. Choose Follow system settings to track your device’s dynamic color, or pick one of the built-in swatches (Red, Pink, Purple, Blue, Teal, Green, Amber, Orange, and more).
  • Font — Follow system settings, Roboto, Noto, or Atkinson Hyperlegible — a typeface designed to increase legibility for readers with low vision.

Icons & avatars

  • Load App icons — show the real launcher icon for items matched to an installed app, instead of a generic placeholder.
  • Load Website icons — fetch favicons for login URLs so each item carries its site’s logo.
  • Load Gravatar icons — show a Gravatar avatar for items with an email address.

Privacy trade-off. Website icons and Gravatar avatars are fetched over the network, which can reveal the sites in your vault to your internet provider. Turn these off if that matters more to you than the visuals.

Layout

Keyguard can show the list and the open item side by side instead of as two separate screens. The two toggles let you decide per orientation:

  • Allow two panel layout in portrait mode
  • Allow two panel layout in landscape mode

Both kick in only when the window is wide enough to fit two panels, so they mostly affect tablets and desktop windows.

Behavior

  • Open links in external browser (Android) — opens URLs in your default browser app rather than an in-app browser tab.
  • Keep the screen on while viewing items — prevents the screen from dimming off while an item is open.
  • Minimize on copy (Desktop) — hides the window after you copy a value.
  • Close to system tray (Desktop) — closing the window tucks Keyguard into the tray instead of quitting it.
  • Rich text formatting — render Markdown in notes rather than showing the raw text.
